Emalie’s proposal

3 August 2008

(I’m not sure where to put my paragraph proposal for the “GOD,” journal so I’m putting it here)

I plan to look at Baudrillard’s concept of simulacra in relation to C.S Lewis’s works of fantasy, mostly The Chronicles of Narnia, as well as The Great Divorce and perhaps others. It will be a creative piece, most likely including some of my own illustrations, in which a sort of reflexive dialogue between a child and an adult develops. It will question and challenge the ability of art to have effect on what is ‘real’ in other words our ‘real’ experience. It will function as what I believe is Lewis’s response to the concept of simulacra (whether or not Lewis actually read Baudrillard I’m not sure, haven’t checked the time line), as well as being a space for me to put forward some of my own thoughts (and biblical research) on the subject. It will be hung on the framework of a kind of ‘pastiche’(or perhaps one could call it parody – I will only know when I begin to write it)of Lewis’s writings, but will have new characters introduced in order to bring to awareness the philosophy behind the works.

(It is still developing in my mind, and this paragraph will be updated as it begins to become clearer to me.)

i plan to investigate the implications that John’s statement that Jesus is both the Word and God (sign and signified in one) have on de Saussure’s claim that the sign and signified are not linked.

‘God,’ Vision

2 July 2008

One. To lovingly challenge people to find truth.

Two. To represent and reveal new facets of the character of God.

Three. To provide apologetics to people who do not have a relationship with God.

Four. Stir the rest of the body to produce sound, accessible, powerful apologetics.

Five. Showcase excellent, relevant and creative apologetics.

Six. Equip the body to approach the topics covered from a biblical worldview (much like C.S. Lewis’s writings).
