Meeting Minutes

15 March 2008

Hey guys!

Welcome to our new blog! Hope everyone’s been having a great week and eager for vac. Ya well hopefully this will help with admin, smooth communication, publishing etc. Feel free to post announcements, random musings, any info you think will benefit everyone else and to use this even as an open forum. This site’s very user freindly and it makes hooking up with other like-minded blogsters easy. I think everyone’s got the login details, but if you don’t just holla at me and I’ll make sure to hook you up. Because we will as agreed on on Friday be posting our presentation notes, essays and again random musings – feel free to give out the URL (and only the URL, login details are obviously for members only) to mates interested in post-modernism.

So ya, here’s what we basically came up with on Friday:

1. we’re going to be going over some of the stuff we covered last year

2. presentations or rather discussions are on every Friday at 10:30 in the Rhodes Main Library Basement – for now (oh guys please remember to bring your timetables along to the first meet next term so we can see if we can find any alternative and more suitable meeting times)

3.  to max our time, whoever’s turn it is to be leading the group that week should post all their research and presentation goodies on the blog by the Thursday 12 (noon) before their presentation. it’s up to every individual to have gone over the material and prepped questions, revs etc.

2. we’re keen to get practical ie. not morphing into ineffectual ivory tower intellectuals but actually training ourselves up as apologists and putting feet to the knowledge we have. we agreed unanimously that we’re not going to be turning this into another time-consuming programme but we are going to strategically reaching out to post-moderns and really just the “field” of academia at Rhodes. some brilliant ideas people had: bringing God and His truth into our work  and being excellent at it(non-negotiable), inviting people to D-group, online forum, was it a sort of newsletter open forum?, hosting movie nights and heading to the Goal for further discussions – please feel free to make this list longer and please be thinking over vac about implementation

3. we wanna grow – in our known grasp of God, His word, our passions and areas of interest; but also numerically – and that means bringing in the first years

4. in the second half of the year, we’ll still be doing presentations but really it’s journal-writing time

4. saving the most NB point for last: Daniel group isn’t just a forum for intellectual banter; it’s a ministry. and that means it’s all for and about God; it’s about us learning to grow in the area of loving God with our minds, learning to think His thoughts after Him, and secondly reconciling (in our case) postmoderns to Him.  and ya guys, this is a fairly new endeavour (only about a year old); we’re basically pioneering, sowing seed and it’s gonna be hard soemtimes - but God has promised us an inheritance, and it’s in the philosophy and english and journ and art and law and sociology and psychology and whatever else departments. but we need to be faithfully sowing prayer into this ministry or else we’re going NOWHERE because God does absolutely NOTHING without prayer. just be trusting God for a burden for the area of academia, people in academia, questions and answers to them, vision, direction, strategy, mad creativity, some serious download, and a sharpening of our intellect (trust me, we all need it)!

Otherwise I’m really excited and so so so so very privileged to be part of something so amazing, and to be in-team with all you hectics. I’m really just expectant to see all of you do great things this year.

One last thing, I’ve attached a blank rooster table thing covering only this term so you guys can just slot in your names and what it is you’re keen on schooling us in. I currently don’t have the contact list on me but i’ll put it up asap.

Make use of this blog and happy vac! And see you all fired up and ready ta blaze it uppppp next term!!!
